CHS Tribe of Indians
CHS Band

The Cherokee High School Marching Band, known as the Tribe of Indians, obtained a new director this year. His name is Nick Tyler and he is from Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from UAB in April with his bachelor's degree in College of Arts and Science in Music with a concentration in Education. He is now leading the Tribe of Indians in Cherokee with their band program. This season their marching band show is titled “Rock You”, selections from Queen. The songs include “We Will Rock You,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” and “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The season is going to be filled with ten Friday night football games and two different marching competitions. The marching competitions will be held in Russellville and Muscle Shoals, which are regulars for the Tribe of Indians. The Tribe of Indians were recently seen as the marching band at the beginning of the Labour Day parade in Tuscumbia. The Tribe of Indians were the first band to perform in this parade in many years and the Labour Council gave the Marching Band a $300 donation for their new uniforms. The Tribe is trying to raise money for their new uniforms for the next season. The old uniforms are over ten years old and are becoming out of date for the students to use. If anyone would like to donate money to the new uniforms for the Cherokee High School Band, please visit their website, www.tribeofindianschs.com and contact Mr. Tyler. This year the Tribe is hosted an Alumni Band for the first time in its history for homecoming on October 20th. The Alumni Band will be performing at halftime of Homecoming.  The Alumni Band currently has 39 members, which will bring the band on the field to 70 members, all including brass, woodwinds, Color Guard, and Majorettes. This will be a large array of members on the field at one time, with everyone on the field. The people around town have said nothing but good things about the new directions that the band is going. In their recent travel to Russellville High School, the band received  excellent ratings, as well as a superior rating in the Drum Major category. Their next performance was Muscle Shoals which the band recieved excellent ratings and the color guard recieved Supierior ratings.

The Tribe of Indians Band at Cherokee High School has a great amount of performances coming in this next full year. The band has just concluded its marching season, with receiving excellent rating at both Muscle Shoals and Russellville competition. The band also received superior ratings in the categories of Color Guard at Muscle Shoals and Drum Major at Russellville. As the marching season comes to a conclusion with of the football season coming to an end for 2017. The band however is not done with performing for the school year. The band performed at the Colbert County Night of Bands at Colbert Heights High School Tuesday night and CHS hosted a Veterans Day Program at the school on Thursday, where the student changed into a Concert Band/Symphonic Band. The students have been balancing school, Marching Band and Concert Band music all at the same time.”I am extremely proud of all the students hard work. It is not easily to perform at 100% while balancing Concert Band music, Marching Band music and school work. These students continue to impress me day after day”, said Director of Bands, Nick Tyler.

The year coming up for the band is still going to be busy. The band will be performing on December 9th in the Cherokee Christmas Parade.
