Recently, Read Across America was celebrated by schools all across the United States. Hatton Elementary also participated by having senior athletes, Hogan Isbell and Peyton Gillott, from Colbert County High School visit the school and read to elementary students. After reading the books, the seniors ask if there were any questions, in which they received a lot of response. The students had questions for the seniors such as, “What are your plans after high school?” and several questions about sports. This truly shows how the younger students look up to them.

Hogan Isbell stated, “It’s nice to take time out of our day to do that.” Isbell and Gillott had a great time visiting and reading to the kids. When asked about the opportunity, Gillott said, “Hopefully we influenced the students in a positive way.” It is very important to provide young people with positive role models, and this is an opportunity to do just that.
