Student Assessment

Welcome to Student Assessment!

This section is designed to provide you with information related to the various tests administered by the Alabama State Department of Education and the Colbert County Board of Education.

Summative Assessments
Alabama students are assessed using a variety of state-mandated standardized assessments. A description is provided below of state assessments given within the Colbert County school system.

ACT WorkKeys
ACT WorkKeys is a job skills assessment given to all seniors that measure the areas of Applied Mathematics, Locating Information, and Reading Information. Successful completion in these areas can lead to earning ACT's National Career Readiness Certificate. This certificate helps employers select, hire, train, develop, and retain a high-performance workforce. This test has helped millions of people build their skills to increase global competitiveness and establish successful career pathways. For more information, please visit www.act.org/products/workforce-act-workkeys

ACT PLUS WRITING
The ACT college readiness assessment given to 11th-grade students assesses the following areas: English, Math, Reading, Science, and Writing. This assessment is used as a college admissions and placement test and measures skills needed for first-year college success. Additionally, the ACT includes a career exploration component that stimulates students' thinking about plans and relates personal characteristics to career options. It assesses student mastery in the areas of reading, math, and science. This process occurs throughout the school year. FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS
Students in Colbert County Schools are assessed using a variety of formative, or on-going, assessments that are used for instructional purposes. The following tests are not state-mandated tests; however, test security is maintained to ensure the validity of tests results.

Scantron

Educators are allowed to monitor growth and view student progress over time. Students in grades 2-12 are tested in reading and math at least twice a year.

Dibels
Dibels is an on-going reading formative assessment that is used with students in grades K-1.
