My name is Jill Kirk, and I am an oboist from a small town in Bainbridge, GA. I went to college at the University of North Alabama and received a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. After graduating in December of 2018, I traveled to Spain to teach English, Science, and Art in a rural village called Frómista. After coming back to the states, I got married and become the band director at Colbert Heights High School! After being a part of band for eleven years, I know that music provides an unrivaled medium for necessary life-lessons encompassing important characteristics including collaboration skills, time management, communication skills, and perseverance. As a member of the UNA Band, I have performed as the principal oboist in the UNA Symphonic Band and UNA Wind Ensemble. I have also been a member of the Shoals Symphony Orchestra where I has served as the assistant principal oboist, the principal oboist, and English horn player. I love performing at events in the Shoals Area, and I have performed in several local churches. I have also taught private oboe lessons for four years and have been an assistant instructor for the Bainbridge High School Band Camp and the Muscle Shoals Band Camp. I am looking forward to working with such amazing students, and I would invite all students to try band! It is a great way to make friends and become a part of our big family up on the mountain!
