Parents/Guardians:

Welcome to a new school year full of opportunities! It is an opportunity for the students to make new friends and learn new things.  It is an opportunity for you, the parents, to encourage your child to make the most of the educational chances that they will have this year.  It is also an opportunity for us, the faculty and staff of Cherokee High School, to engage the students in meaningful and rigorous learning activities.

Please read the online handbook carefully with your child.  It will answer many questions that you may have concerning dress code, discipline, cell phone policy, and expectations.

I also want to encourage students to be here every day AND to be on time.  Students that miss a class more then 7 days are in danger of not receiving credit for the class.  A student must be present for at least 75% of the class in order for that day to count.  Classes will start promptly at 7:50 a.m.  If your child is a car rider, it is best to arrive by 7:45.  This will give the child time to go to his/her locker and be in the classroom prepared and on time.  Students that arrive after 7:50 a.m. will need to be checked in through the office.  Students with four (4) tardies per semester will receive a day of Saturday detention,  Please make EVERY effort to schedule doctor appointments after school.  Your child's success at school is directly related to the amount of time actually spent in the classroom.

The faculty and staff of Cherokee High School are excited about the opportunity to educate our students and provide them with the opportunity to learn and become productive, responsible citizens in our society.  We want our students to treat school as if it is their job.  In order to be successful at a job, one must be in attendance, must be punctual and must complete assigned tasks.  If your child is having trouble with any of these areas, please email the teacher or schedule a conference through the office.  We must work together for our children to be prepared for life after high school.

Again, welcome and thank you in advance for your cooperation and support of Cherokee High School.

Sincerely,

Pam Worsham
