Philosophy of Career Technical Education

The Colbert County Board of Education believes that career/technical education is an important part of the total educational program within our school system. To provide instruction in job skills is necessary for the social and economic well-being of our youth, adults, and community as a whole.
The Board of Education supports and offers those career technical programs determined to be appropriate for local business and industry. This also includes career/technical guidance and counseling services as an integral part of the total educational program.

Mission of Career Technical Education

To prepare students for leadership in the world of work through a relevant sequenced course of study that teaches not only the critical job skills but fosters a deep respect for the dignity of work.

Goals of the Career Technical Programs

  • Academic Preparation: To integrate academics in a career context using workplace applications and expectations to make learning more relevant, improve student academic achievement, and create greater career options.
  • Career Development: To ensure that students, with their parents, will be prepared to make informed career choices.
  • Workplace Readiness: To ensure that students acquire technological and employability skills to help learners move into the workplace and/or continuing education in order to pursue their career goals.
  • Professional and Technical Education: To provide options for advanced specialized programs at colleges, universities, in the military, and technical schools through collaboration and written curriculum articulation agreements between K-12 and higher education institutions.
