The purpose of the Safe and Drug Free Schools Program is to foster a safe and drug-free learning environment that supports academic achievement.
The Safe and Drug Free Schools Program (SDFS) is a federally funded initiative which supports programs
that prevent violence in and around schools; that prevent the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco,
and other drugs; that involve parents and communities;
and that are coordinated with related Federal, State, school, and community efforts and resources.
All of these efforts together form a comprehensive plan to promote peaceful resolution to conflict and
to reduce the demand for and use of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and other drugs by school-age children.

The MENDEZ Drug and Violence Prevention Programs are used in our alternative school setting and in our
County Level Alternative Suspension System (C.L.A.S.S.).
The program serves students in grades 5-12 and is taught by the teachers.
The Project Alert curriculum is used for grades 7-8. This program is administered through the host school.
Every seventh and eighth grade class in the county has exposure to this program.
"Get Real About Violence" is used in grades K-8 and administered at the school level.
In addition, PRIDE Surveys are administered each year to determine the attitudes of students
toward violence, tobacco, and alcohol and drug use.

Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Research-based Curriculum Programs

Our administrators, teachers, and staff work tirelessly every day to monitor the hallways,
classrooms, and campus in order to ensure our students' safety. Our teachers also help
our students learn to make wise decisions about drug use, conflict resolution, and anger management.
The following research-based curriculums are being used by the
Colbert County School System to provide its students with information to assist
them in abstaining from participating in the use of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or violent behavior:
